Steps into Aged Care

Ashleigh House Senior Living

How Our Service Works

Exploring aged care can be a daunting and emotional time for loved ones involved. This is why we have put together a step-by-step process to try and assist our families and future residents with applying for aged care.

01

Apply for an assessment for aged care services

Visit https://www.myagedcare.gov.au/assessment/apply-online or you can call 1800 200 422.

We can only accept a person into aged care services, once they have been approved for Respite or Permanent Care. You can apply for an assessment using the above contact details. Once you have applied, a member of the assessment team will visit the applicants home for their assessment and determine whether the person is suitable for respite care, permanent care or both. If approved, the applicant will receive an approval code for each service they have been accepted for. We need to know these codes so we can access the applicant’s medical information by our Clinical Care Manager.

02

Visit or call us on 51 44 4484 to arrange a tour with the Business Manager

If you are interested in aged care at Ashleigh House, please contact us to arrange a tour of our facilities. The Business Manager will talk through all the services offered, as well as specific room information. You will also be provided with an application form to fill out.

If you have already visited our facilities, and want to fill out our application form – you can do this and either drop to reception or email this to admin@ashleighhouse.com.au

Understanding Aged Care Fees

Aged Care Fees can be complicated to understand. The first step to make this process easier, is to identify the applicant’s financial position when entering permanent aged care services. This will assist you in determining whether you are eligible for Government subsidised services or fall into the category as financially unsupported by the Government. You can do this by arranging a means assessment with a Services Australia outlet centre (or also know as Centrelink in Sale on York Street).

You can book an appointment by calling the Centrelink Aged Care line on 1800 227 475 or dropping into a service centre.

Below is a simplified breakdown of categories for your general knowledge. Further information is available through the My Aged Care website here: https://www.myagedcare.gov.au/aged-care-home-costs-and-fees

Understanding our fees

The fee categories for aged care will take awhile for you to get used to – so don’t stress if you don’t understand it al straight away.

Ashleigh House does not receive anyone’s pensions. You decide how you would like to pay for your fees – whether it is at reception, or via direct debit. We send out a statement at the end of every month that details what the charges were for that month, and the balance owing on the account.

Once a resident has transitioned into permanent aged care from respite, this is where extra fees may apply – such as the accommodation or room cost. During respite, there is no room (or accommodation) cost applicable until this transition occurs.

Please use the guide below as a reference for what fee’s may apply to you at Ashleigh House:

All Residents

This is the fee that is set at 85% percent of the aged care pension and is a standard fee across all aged care homes in Australia. This is the daily fee we charge for respite and also applies to all our permanent residents as well.

Partially Supported Residents

The Government may have determined that you only need to pay for a portion of your accommodation costs. You will be provided with a DAC fee amount from Services Australia that you will need to pay along with the Basic Daily fee.

You have the option of paying your DAC fee as a lump sum. This lump sum will be formed as a refundable amount back to the estate. This fee is calculated by your daily fee amount over 365 days and divided by the maximum permissible interest rate:

DAC fee X 365 / MPIR (current maximum permissible interest rate)

Unsupported Residents

The Government may have determined that you are able to pay for your own accommodation costs. This will mean that you will either be paying a Daily Accommodation payment or choose to pay your accommodation as a lump sum (which will form as a refundable amount back to the estate – known as a RAD). The Daily Payment is not refunded.

A Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) is a lump sum option to pay for a room/accommodation at an aged care home. This lump sum is refundable back to the estate. Room prices vary from home to home, and room to room – depending on how large the room is, what is available in it, and access to garden’s, etc.
